Statement on the violence at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, January 6.

“Yesterday was a sad, dark moment in our nation’s history. Like many organizations, we condemn the violence and destruction occurring at the U.S. Capitol. It was anti-democratic and a clear reflection of our utterly divided nation. We urge leaders at all levels of government, regardless of party affiliation, to restore the honor, decency, and integrity that truly reflects our citizens and our country’s character. The U.S. has conducted a free and a fair election, and now the peaceful transfer of power - the centerpiece of our democracy and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights- must proceed.”
