The "Volunteer Guide to Refugee Service Agencies" contains the contact information to reach these agencies directly. It's east—just call them to find out more about what they need. Whether a one-time project or ongoing volunteerism, your participation at any level is appreciated.
Project History
The Committee on Refugees began in 1998 as a program committee for the North Texas UN Conference on Women, an annual event hosted by The University of Texas at Dallas-School of Social Sciences* and co-sponsored by the UNA-USA Dallas Chapter. After presentation of seminars on refugee women's issues, featuring speakers from our community and from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), an interest remained for continuing local action.

In January 1999 the Committee on Refugees affiliated with the UNA-USA Dallas Chapter--enabling continuity of educational programming and outreach to potential volunteers for refugee services. UNA-USA Dallas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations in support of its projects are tax-deductible

*In Remembrance:
The UNA-USA Dallas Chapter Committee on Refugees was inspired by Dr. Rita Mae Kelly: mentor, friend, former dean of the UTD School of Social Sciences, holder of the Andrew R. Cecil Endowed Chair of Applied Ethics and director of the Center for Empowerment & Global-Local Equity (The EAGLE Center), and chair of the annual North Texas UN Conference on Women. Our existence, goals, and accomplishments are dedicated to her memory.
